Job Description: Administrator – Receptionist
South East Galway Integrated Rural Development Clg. is a not-for-profit, local development company, operating since 1997. The company manages the Irish Workhouse Centre in Portumna. Co. Galway (www.irishworkhousecentre.ie).
We currently have a vacancy for an office administrator and receptionist (1 position).
The ideal candidate will:
- Have excellent people skills and communication/writing skills
- Be proficient in MS word, MS excel and MS publisher, Internet and e-mail
- Be experienced in bookkeeping and payroll
- Be capable of working on their own initiative
Work will include:
- Front of house office and reception duties
- General administration and office services
- Bookkeeping and payroll
- Responsibility for balancing cash and lodgements
- Providing tourist information
- Assisting with IRD company and workhouse project work
- Tour guiding when required
Please note that you will be required to be flexible in this position and be prepared to undertake such other work as may be assigned to you by the manager from time to time

Seasonal Tour Guides 2022 (Tour Guide Positions and Project Manager/Tour Guide Positions)
Tour Guides are required for the Irish Workhouse Centre for the 2022 tourist season. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and people skills and an interest/qualification in history or a related discipline.
As a tour guide, your job will involve introducing visitors to the unique story of the Workhouse Centre. Guides will also be expected to provide tourist advice on the region from Portumna Castle to local historical monuments, and the other areas of cultural interest.
There are no mandatory academic requirements and on-the-job training will be provided to successful candidates as required. Fluency in the English language is essential, and knowledge of another modern language would be an advantage.
Duties extend to giving presentations to visiting groups, completing research, various administrative and cash duties, cleaning and maintenance, and other duties that may be assigned by the general manager.
Note that distinct positions are available in the Workhouse which focuses more on project work (and specific/bespoke duties), with a history/heritage qualification desirable for these roles.
